Most Important Lesson
Time passes and its down to the last week of the module, EIR. I had believed that if i didnt take EIR, i would not have learn and came to know the different types of search engines and the existence of them. I would still be using GOOGLE or YAHOO. Therefore i seriously think that the lesson on the introduction of Google Scholar, Yahoo Subject Directory, Metacrawler, Databases and Virtual Libraries was beneficial and important. I regard it as the most important lesson in my EIR journey as it had helped me to complete the portfolio with ease.
Wiki Wetpaint
We were told to register an account for Wiki Wetpaint. We were also asked to post up information regarding the topic "Cyber Bullying". I had not know that Wiki Wetpaint had existed until today. We were asked to join the wiki as a member then start putting information into the topic. As the information builds up, we will get a better understanding of the topic and also allow others to do research. And they might even use our wiki as their research if they find it helpful.

Class Test 2
It was class test 2, and i scored 17/20. I was relieved as yesterday night revising paid off. I got 12/20 for my first test and i think i should be getting a 14.5/20 for the two entire class test.
After the test, we were looking at some YouTube videos. YouTube is Hosts user-generated videos. It includes network and professional content. We were to discuss as a group what is YouTube strength and weaknesses and also how can they improve to survive. Our group thinks that maybe YouTube can do a live telecast for certain programs so that everyone can watch it online.
My Dream Holiday
My dream holiday will be a place that is hot and full of sand. Yes, the place is called Egypt. I remembered watching a movie called "The Mummy" and i was mesmerised by the wonders of the pyramid in Egypt. I kept asking myself how did the people at that era build this entire pyramid without machines? In addition after watching the movie, i was more interested into tomb raiding and mummy hunting. Therefore i went into research to find the multimedia website which features Egypt and the package tour of it.

The above picture is from http://sg.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=Egypt&fr=yfp-t-img&toggle=1&cop=&ei=UTF-8
These are the information i found from Chans Brothers travel website.
As you can see, the above information is from Chan's Brothers therefore the information is true and can be trusted. Therefore after evaluating from the website, i think that the criteria called "Accuracy" is very important as true and reliable information is needed before going to other foreign country.

Reflection For Week 2
It was Deepavali on Monday so therefore I do not have to go to school. However, I had to complete an EIR's E-Learning assignment so as to mark my attendance on Monday. The assignment to be complete is to participate in a discussion forum in Ole Blackboard. We are to discuss about how Internet has enriched my academic and social life. Other than discussing by posting a new thread for the discussion question, we had to response to our classmate's thread.
I feel that this E-Learning assignment is more interesting than the usual lessons. This is because we get to mark our attendance at home, just by posting and responding to the threads.
Tuesday 28th Oct
Today's lesson is about Invisible Web(Databases). The meaning of invisible web is text pages, files or other often high-quality authoritative information available via the World Wide Web that general-purpose search engines cannot or will not add to their indices of Web pages. In other words, they are referred to as the "Deep Web" or "Dark Matter".
It is also a collection of information stored in the form of data. Search engines do not index information that is stored in a database. Many Invisible Web (Databases) are maintained by government agencies and non-profit organizations. It often contain articles, abstracts and citations, census data, patents that gives reliable and up-to-date information.
Therefore for today's lesson, i had learnt about some Invisible Webs such as the Academic Gateway and Complete Planet. Not only that, i also learnt about the fact that our school library has got this service too. It is called the E-Books database ITPRO and the Digital Library Portal Research Gateway.
No,I do not think that it is effective to search the invisible web (database) than using search engines, meta search or subject directories because invisible web (database) only searches information from many schools' libraries. I will only use the invisible web (databases) for researching on information that can be acquired from articles or many schools' libraries books.
Friday 31th Oct
It's Halloween today and I had got a class test. I should say that i didnt fare very well for the class test because i only got 12/20 for it despite the fact that i studied it for the night before the test. =( After the class test, we watched some short clips regarding some songs that insult Singapore. I think that it was interesting as it really took the sleepyness away from me. Following on, we had to go to www.talkcock.com to evaluate the website. We were split into 3 groups, Singapore Prime Minister , Singaporean, Foreigner Talent/ Worker. Each groups had to role play the above character and evaluate the website based on the roles. I happened to be Foreigner Talent/Worker and had to went up to say what i felt about the website as a foreigner. I did not understand the website as it was full of singlish. The criteria i would use to evaluate talkingcock.com is Entertainment. I think that it really amuse me as i began laughing when i was browsing through the Coxford Singlish Dictionary. I felt really fun to role play a foreigner and had a chance to stand up to represent my group in a mini debate.

Reflection For Week 1
Monday 20th Oct
The day before monday i checked my timetable and found out that i got a module called EIR, i was surprised as i remember i didnt select any module with the name of "EIR". However that kept me looking forward for the first day of EIR. Initially i though EIR meant easy internet research cos the nearest module i could relate to EIR was UIR, therefore i thought it should be blah blah blah internet research.
Today is the first lesson for Effective Internet Research. My EIR's lecturer was Ms Noor Faridah. She is the tutor and subject leader for this module. Being wonderfully nice, she suggested us playing some ice breaking games to let us know our classmates better. We were divided into groups of 5 or 6 people each, playing a game on the net which required us to use the internet to check the answers for the questions. There are a varities of topics of questions to choose, they are celebrities, music, and etc. My group chose Celebrities as the topic and there are 5 questions in the topic. My group consist of 6 members : Kaisiong, Ivy, Samir, Colin, Donson and me. I was being selected as the group leader for the group. We split the questions between us and moved on to get the 5 answers for the questions. The first day required us to use our normal and ordinary research methods to find the answers. Therefore i realised this module is actually about making use of internet resources to get the informations i need.
Following on, i chose the discussion topic (Discuss the trends and developments of business blogging). After attending the first lesson of this new improved module, i realised that i am still new to the search engines out there in the internet. I also had to create my eir blog to post my reflections for each day. This is not my first time blogging as i myself had a personal blog for some time already.
Tuesday 21st Oct
This is the second day of my lesson, my lecturer began teaching the new module. I was taught of the different purpose of internet resources. They are Information, Advocacy, Business/ Marketing, News, Personal and Entertainment. Next we were given an assignment to use $500 to buy somethings online.
Thursday 23th Oct
This is officially the 3rd lesson i had attended, this is because theres no lesson on Wednesday. I learnt how to use effective ways through Advance Google Search and Scholar Google Search to search the information i needed. It is my first time hearing such search engines, and i realised that it is actually better than the usual google and yahoo search. This is because they contain more information than the usual google and yahoo search.
I think that google scholar is much precise regarding the information that you wanted as compared to advanced google search.
Google searches the Web for information and images. It also provide translation of results, and an option to find similar pages.
Google Scholar: Provides a search of more resources including books and articles. It also has a function that allows user to only search recent article if they are only looking for things that happen recently. And lastly it only shows the result that are more relevant.
Regarding the discussion topic, i had registered myself for http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/
to discuss about my topic: Discuss the trends and developments of business blogging. This is my first time to discuss an serious topic on the forum. Usually i will go to some game forums and dicuss about the game i played. However regarding to an academic topic, it is still my first time.
I admit i am anxious about the replies i would get because i am afraid that my thread would be ignored due to my lack in experience in forum participation. Therefore i always think twice before posting up my thread.
Before lesson is dismissed, Ms Faridah also taught me about the importance of citing and bibliography. This is not the first time i had been taught on this, my first lesson about citation and bibliography was in PcomD. That time i had learnt that citation and bibliography is to acknowledge the source and to avoid plagiarism.
Friday 24th Oct
Lessons as usual and i learnt another 2 new search engines. They are meta crawlers and yahoo directory.
Meta crawlers is something that searches results from google, yahoo and other search engines. It filters to get the information that is more relevant. It also allows users to choose which search engine they want Meta search engine to search on.
Whereas for Yahoo Directory, it is actually a category based search engines to allow the user to narrow down the search on what he wants to search about.
Initially i only know yahoo, google. Now i know around 6 search engines and 4 of them are learnt from EIR!!.
i think that meta search engines is more precise than the other search engines. It only provide up to 154 results when i type "(Business Blogging)". This shows its preciseness for the search it found, and it also shows the percentage of relevant it is to the keywords i typed.
When it is compared to google, i think that Meta Crawlers are much better as it provides the results from the other different search engines. In addition, the filtering of information to get more precious and relevant information.
I had also recieved replies from the thread i posted in the forum. Although there are some replies which are not so friendly, there are still some which gives me information. Maybe it is due to my lack of experience in the way of posting a question, thats why some replies are not so friendly. However i learnt something new from this module, especially posting a discussion topic in a forum.

Interesting Facts!
Monday 9:30 a.m. It's time for a frank talk. And no, it can't wait. We know, we know: Most of you are sick to death of blogs. Don't even want to hear about these millions of online journals that link together into a vast network. And yes, there's plenty out there not to like. Self-obsession, politics of hate, and the same hunger for fame that has people lining up to trade punches on The Jerry Springer Show. Name just about anything that's sick in our society today, and it's on parade in the blogs. On lots of them, even the writing stinks.
Go ahead and bellyache about blogs. But you cannot afford to close your eyes to them, because they're simply the most explosive outbreak in the information world since the Internet itself. And they're going to shake up just about every business -- including yours. It doesn't matter whether you're shipping paper clips, pork bellies, or videos of Britney in a bikini, blogs are a phenomenon that you cannot ignore, postpone, or delegate. Given the changes barreling down upon us, blogs are not a business elective. They're a prerequisite. (And yes, that goes for us, too.)
There's a little problem, though. Many of you don't visit blogs -- or haven't since blogs became a sensation in last year's Presidential race. According to a Pew Research Center Survey, only 27% of Internet users in America now bother to read them. So we're going to take you into the world of blogs by delivering this story -- call it Blogs 101 for businesses -- in the style of a blog. We're even sprinkling it with links. These are underlined words that, when clicked, carry readers of this story's online version to another Web page.
Potential customers are out there, sniffing around for deals and partners. While you may be putting it off, you can bet that your competitors are exploring ways to harvest new ideas from blogs, sprinkle ads into them, and yes, find out what you and other competitors are up to.
Tuesday 6:35 a.m. How big are blogs? Try Johannes Gutenberg out for size. His printing press, unveiled in 1440, sparked a publishing boom and an information revolution. Some say it led to the Protestant Reformation and Western democracy. Along the way, societies established the rights and rules of the game for the privileged few who could afford to buy printing presses and grind forests into paper.
The printing press set the model for mass media. A lucky handful owns the publishing machinery and controls the information. Whether at newspapers or global manufacturing giants, they decide what the masses will learn. This elite still holds sway at most companies. You know them. They generally park in sheltered spaces, have longer rides on elevators, and avoid the cafeteria. They keep the secrets safe and coif the company's message. Then they distribute it -- usually on a need-to-know basis -- to customers, employees, investors, and the press.
That's the world of mass media, and the blogs are turning it on its head. Set up a free account at Blogger or other blog services, and you see right away that the cost of publishing has fallen practically to zero. Any dolt with a working computer and an Internet connection can become a blog publisher in the 10 minutes it takes to sign up.
Sure, most blogs are painfully primitive. That's not the point. They represent power. Look at it this way: In the age of mass media, publications like ours print the news. Sources try to get quoted, but the decision is ours. Ditto with letters to the editor. Now instead of just speaking through us, they can blog. And if they master the ins and outs of this new art -- like how to get other bloggers to link to them -- they reach a huge audience.
About GOOGLE
Google (GOOG ) is regarded as a secretive company. So in January, when a young programmer named Mark Jen started blogging about his first days in the Googleplex, folks in the 'sphere instantly linked to him. Jen certainly wasn't dealing out inside dirt. But he griped that Google's health plan was less generous than his former employer's -- Microsoft (MSFT ) -- and he argued, indignantly, that Google's free food was an enticement for employees to work past dinner.
Two weeks later, Google fired Jen. And that's when the 22-year-old became a big story. Google was blogbusted for overreacting and for sending an all-too-clear warning to the dozens of bloggers still at the company. A Google official says the company has lots of bloggers and just expects them to use common sense. For example, if it's something you wouldn't e-mail to a long list of strangers, don't blog it.

Now you can keep on rocking (and watching and playing) even longer. Improved battery life means iPod touch provides up to 36 hours of audio playback or 6 hours of video playback — enough to watch three or four movies between charges.*
Purpose
The purpose of visiting this website is that i can buy a iPod Touch which i had been thinking of buying for a long time. It has always been on my mind that i need a gadget for travelling purposes, this is to kill my boredom.
In addition, the website is from Apple and I am able to trust the product quality unlike the products from ebay which is often not in the top end condition. However, ebay does provide the condition status of the product, (eg 8/10). Therefore there are pros and cons.

Research Topic- Online shops lookout

The above 2 screen shot is

The reason why i chose this topic is because there's a raging increase of people blogging and going online. It had been a hot thing since Nuffnang appeared, Nuffnang is a medium that puts advertisements on ur blog site if you sign up with it. By doing that Nuffnang is looking at the blog counters of the respective blogs which signed up. It is one cent for every blog counter, and only by reaching fifty sing dollars then the money will be sent over to the owner of the blog. Do not think that by keep refreshing you will increase the amount of money earned. It is true that it will increase the counters but each IP address view is only for 1 cent per day.

Self Introduction
pursuing my Product and Industrial Design. I am the oldest among my siblings.
The reason why i chose TP's Product and Industrial Design instead of Nanyang Polytechnic's design courses is because i heard TP is well known for its design courses. Therefore by coming into TP, it allows me to move higher in my academic life.
I like Product and Industrial Design because it allows me to experience satisfaction after every big or small product are done. Through that i also learn my new things, such as computering aided design. Despite the fact that i am not very good in designing products, however i will still try my best for every assignments and projects that is passed on to me. Another reason why i decided to enrol Product and Industrial Design is that i scored a A2 for my Design and Technology during my O levels in my Secondary School. I also scored a 15 cut off point for my O levels.
What i want to achieve from the 3 years in Temasek Polytechnic is the skills of designing a product on par with the professional standard. I can also use the necessary skills to equip myself so as to survive in the raging working world. I hope i will be able to use the skills to bring myself to overseas, broadening my knowledge. I heard that my SIP is on July 2009 so i am looking forward to learn as much as i can while having the attachments in the working world.
